Recommended Reading List for Tibet

Books and Reports (you are welcome to search for more readings from websites):

• Shakya, Tsering: The Dragon in the Land of Snows - a History of Modern Tibet since 1947 (Pimlico, London, 1999, ISBN 0 7126 6533 1). An authoritative account of recent history and highly recommended to read.
  
  
• My Land and My People – the original autobiography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama
  
  
• Field Reports and Annual Project Reports of the Tibetan Village Project. Please request one if you have not received one yet.
  

Travel Guidebook (just buy one to bring with you):

• Mayhew, Bradley and Kohn, Michael: Tibet (Lonely Planet Publications, Footscray, 7th edition, February 2008).
  

• Osada, Yukiyasu and others: Mapping the Tibetan World (Kotan Publishing, Reno, Nevada, 1st edition 2000, ISBN 0-9701716-0-9).
  

• Tibet Handbook by Victor Chan – little outdated but this is still one of the best reference guides to Tibet.

Films on Tibet: (1) Seven Years in Tibet, (2) Kundun, (3) Windhorse, (4) Compassion in Exile and (5) Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion. Most likely, these films can be rented from your local video stores and public libraries. If you don’t have Tamdin’s Journey: A Tibetan Village Project, please request one from TVP. This will also help with your fundraising and understanding of TVP projects.
